When we were finished reading up on the Faux Four, Ollie and I sat in shock for several minutes.

“That was like my favorite gossip site times a billion,” Ollie said. “On steroids.”

“My head is mush,” I said, rubbing my eyes, which were dry from staring at my phone’s screen for so long.

“So, what now?” Ollie asked.

I took a deep breath. “Now we do some recon I-R-L,” I said.

“Well, at least that won’t be so hard since all their kids go here,” Ollie offered. “And I feel like we already know more about Annabelle than we ever wanted to.”

“No kidding,” I said.

“I actually know Sammy pretty well. She’s a theater nerd like me. London—well, I was sort of obsessed with him because of his celeb kid status, but then I found out he was a jock. Suddenly, he doesn’t quite hold the same appeal. Not that I would turn down an invitation to a party at his house if it meant getting some facetime with his dad. I mean, wouldn’t it be cool if that’s how I got discovered—”

“Focus, Ollie,” I said, snapping my fingers in front of his face to bring him back to reality.

“Right,” Ollie said, shaking the daydream away. “What were we talking about again?”

“The others?” I asked. “Who’s Benji?”

Ollie shrugged. “No clue.”

My mouth fell open.

“But I thought you knew everybody?” I asked in mock shock.

“I know!” he exclaimed, either not catching my sarcasm or ignoring it completely. “I thought I did too.”

I chuckled a little before growing serious again.

“So how are we going to get to know these kids, get them to open up to us?” I asked.

We both thought about this in silence until all of a sudden, Ollie’s face lit up.

“I got it!” he said excitedly. “There are only two current events classes for our grade. And Sammy and London aren’t in my class, so they have to be in yours.”

“Really?” I asked, scrunching up my face like I was trying to place them in my mind. But it was no use. I wasn’t exactly social outside of my little bubble of Ollie.

And now maybe June.

“I’m not even sure what the Benji kid looks like,” Ollie said, lifting his arms up as if the kid was a mystery. “We’ll both have to do some recon there, I think.”

“Well, okay,” I said finally. I nodded my head as a plan began to form. “I guess I’m making some new friends.
